Developed from an eroded sheep grazing property, Granite Gardens was first started as a private garden in the early 1990's.
New owners Terry & Christine Rasmussen brought the property in 2002 and set about with a vision to: 1. Have power connected to the property, 2. Build Romantic Luxury Cottages, 3. Build a Coffee Lounge, 4. 9 hole Golf Course, 5. Adding another 1000 Roses, Evergreen plants, Bulbs, Shrubs and Plant Nursery, to turn the already existing garden into a magical wonderland for all to enjoy. Granite Gardens now boasts the largest floodlit garden in Queensland. Pathways of bollard lighting, large gold and silver lights are situated under the Willows, Elms and Gum trees, adding another dimension to this superb garden.
For the connoisseur, the dominance of David Austin roses throughout the garden is evidence of its diversity and beauty. Borders of Catmint and other plantings such as Agapanthus, Camellias, Magnolias, Geranium, Succulents, Perennials and hundreds of Bulbs compliment this informal botanical marvel.
Pruning season starts around end of July, which can take up to 2 months. With 2000 roses alone in the garden, they do their best to draw as much blood as possible. It is the owners endeavour to have plantings of colour all year round, even when the roses and deciduous trees are not in flower.
The bird life is just as plentiful; up to 60 identified species has been recorded in the garden. Silver perch has been stocked in the lake, which divides the cottages area and the main garden. Hiring of fishing rods is available for catch and release fishing during the summer months. The Fairy garden, Wishing well, Little bridges, Pathways and Water features are another attraction for young and old to discover.
Visitors to the gardens can relax in the onsite Coffee Lounge which overlooks the lake and garden. Experience true alfresco dining Thursday to Monday all year round. Light lunches, devonshire teas, delicious coffee, gelati and sorbet treats are on offer for the most discerning of tastes. During the warmer months breakfasts are served on a Saturday & Sunday morning from 7.30am. Intimate candlelit dinners will be available during the summer months on Saturday evenings. (Bookings essential)
